OSIRIS

Isis, Nephthys, Osiris, and Seth were the four children of the earth god Geb and the sky goddess Nut. When Geb grew very old, he turned the kingship of earth over to his second son, Osiris. Osiris was a good-hearted god who loved the human race. Osiris wanted all people to be treated fairly, so he invented and taught the idea of the rule of law. Wanting all people to have enough, Osiris traveled around the planet teaching how to grow food. Seth, brother of Osiris, had a very different personality. Seth was hot- tempered and had no self-discipline. He was the older brother and thought he should have inherited the kingship of earth. As Osiris grew more popular, Seth became more discontented, until finally he decided to kill his brother. He invited Osiris to a feast and tricked him into lying down in a coffin. Then he locked Osiris inside, and threw the coffin into the Nile River. When Isis heard about this, she magically changed herself into a bird and flew off in search of Osiris. Finally she found him, but too late, for he had drowned. She took his body back to Egypt, and brought him back to life
